Kames is easier to reach than you might think, just a short ferry crossing from the mainland.
From Glasgow, travel west on the M8 to Greenock, then continue on the A78 to Wemyss Bay.
Take the CalMac ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. The crossing takes around 35 minutes, and timetables are available at calmac.co.uk.
From Rothesay, turn right off the ferry onto the A844 towards Port Bannatyne. Continue through the village, keeping the marina on your right, then turn left onto the A844. The gates on the right-hand side mark the entrance to Kames Castle.
Availability is limited through the season – reserve your dates to secure the cottage.
